The Tupper Times Endorses the SPFA

The Tupper Times is the SPFA’s first Student Media Endorsement

The SPFA Campaign is proud to announce the endorsement of the Tupper Times, a student newspaper based out of Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School in Vancouver, BC.

“As a student-run newspaper, the Tupper Times values truth and independence. We strive to report the news as it is to our school community — whether or not the facts are convenient for school district administrators. We believe that accountability on all levels is key to a thriving democracy. And that requires a free press safe from coercion. The SPFA protects student journalists, allowing us to represent the young voices that too often go unheard. It safeguards our right to voice grievances and demand improvements without retaliation”, student editors said.

“Thank you to the SPFA Campaign for proposing this vital legislation.”

The endorsement of student media is particularly valuable in the campaign to pass Canada’s first student journalism protection legislation, furthering the power of student journalism and elevating the conversation of scholastic press freedom at the secondary level.

We look forward to the endorsement of several more student media organizations in the near future.
